THE OPPORTUNITY
The Victorian Heart Hospital (VHH) is Australia’s first dedicated cardiac hospital and a pioneering model of care, combining world-class clinical services, research, and education on a single campus. THE ROLE
Reporting operationally to the Divisional Director, Surgery and Statewide Services, and professionally to the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, the Operations Director / Director of Nursing (DON) provides strategic and operational leadership for all Victorian Heart Hospital services. This includes oversight of cardiac and cardiology operations, ambulatory care, intensive care, theatres, emergency services, and rehabilitation programs. The role is accountable for ensuring safe, high-quality, patient-centred care, driving workforce engagement, achieving financial and operational objectives, and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. It also plays a pivotal role in shaping site-wide behaviours, embedding collaborative practice, and influencing service design in partnership with medical, academic, and research stakeholders.
THE CANDIDATE
You are an accomplished senior nurse leader with extensive experience managing complex, multidisciplinary teams in tertiary healthcare environments. With current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse, you bring demonstrated capability in clinical and operational governance, financial stewardship, and strategic planning. You inspire high-performing teams, embrace innovation, and are committed to advancing models of care that deliver exceptional patient outcomes. Postgraduate qualifications in management, leadership, or health administration are essential (or you are working towards them).
