THE OPPORTUNITY

Within its Surgery and Statewide Services Division, Monash Women’s is the largest maternity service in Victoria and among the largest in Australia, caring for nearly 12,000 women and their babies annually across four hospitals. This includes complex tertiary maternity care, a comprehensive gynaecology service, a fertility program, and Victoria’s only Level 6 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. THE ROLE
Reporting operationally to the Divisional Director, Surgery and Statewide Services, and professionally to the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, the Operations Director / Director of Nursing and Midwifery provides strategic and operational leadership across all Women’s and Newborn programs. This includes maternity and gynaecology services, neonatal intensive and special care nurseries across multiple sites, and fertility services. The role is accountable for safe, high‑quality, family‑centred care, workforce engagement and development, financial sustainability, and innovation in service delivery. As the most senior nurse/midwife in the program, the role also influences the organisation’s culture, fostering collaboration, professional excellence, and a strong commitment to research, education, and patient‑centred outcomes.
THE CANDIDATE
You are an accomplished senior nurse or midwife leader with substantial experience leading complex, multi‑site, multidisciplinary teams in tertiary health environments. With current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (and Midwife), you bring demonstrated expertise in clinical and operational governance, strategic and financial management, and driving innovation in models of care. You are an inclusive and collaborative leader, committed to embedding a culture of safety, excellence, and continuous improvement. Postgraduate qualifications in management, leadership, or health administration are essential (or you are actively working towards them).
