THE OPPORTUNITY
Western Health is seeking an exceptional leader to step into the role of Director of Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) at Sunshine Hospital. As part of the broader Division of Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care, this role offers the opportunity to influence and lead care across a service that supports over 200,000 emergency presentations annually, including a large and growing paediatric cohort. The successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping the clinical, operational, educational, and research agenda of PEM services, while collaborating with key partners such as PIPER, Royal Children’s Hospital, Monash Children’s Hospital and local community health networks.
THE ROLE
Reporting to the Clinical Services Director, Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care, the Director will provide clinical and strategic leadership for the Paediatric Emergency Department at Sunshine Hospital. This includes direct oversight of consultants and junior medical staff, departmental performance, operational budgets, patient flow, safety and quality, and staff wellbeing. The role will champion clinical education, simulation-based learning, research and continuous improvement, while also contributing to hospital-wide governance and system partnerships. A key focus will be ensuring that paediatric emergency care is safe, timely, and culturally responsive to the diverse communities of the West.
THE CANDIDATE
You are a specialist medical practitioner in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (FRACP and/or FACEM) with demonstrated experience leading clinical teams in complex emergency care settings. While current AHPRA registration is not required at the time of application, you must be eligible and willing to obtain registration to practise in Australia.
You bring deep clinical expertise and an inclusive leadership style that inspires collaboration, clinical excellence and innovation. You are committed to developing others, advancing education and research, and shaping services that improve the experience and outcomes for children and families. You will be adept at building relationships across disciplines and systems and bring strategic insight into the future of paediatric emergency care delivery.
