A career defining GM role awaits

21 May 2019

We feel very honoured to be partnering with South East Sydney Local Health District’s newly appointed Chief Executive, Tobi Wilson, to recruit the General Manager Prince of Wales & Sydney Eye Hospital. It is a role we are reasonably familiar with having recruited to it in 2016 when Tobi himself secured the job.

Certainly a lot has changed over that period as Tobi and his team have led a once in a generation transformation and extension of Prince of Wales Hospital and contributed to the visioning and early stage development of the surrounding Randwick campus. Whoever comes after Tobi is in for a career defining experience to build on that momentum and successfully conclude this large scale change agenda.

Most people considering their next career move engage in fairly robust due diligence about the role they have their eye on and the organisational context in which it has become available. Critical too is having a good sense of the senior leadership of the organisation.

So a little about Tobi.

Originally from South Australia, he trained and practiced as a physiotherapist and on moving to Victoria very quickly progressed into health management roles, both in the Department and at Melbourne Health. Within four years at Melbourne Health he was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Royal Melbourne Hospital, a role he held for a further two years, before securing the Chief Operating Officer role at Southern Adelaide Local Health Network. During his time at Southern he also acted as Chief Executive, for one period up to five months. From Southern, Tobi took on the complexity of Prince of Wales/Sydney Eye and the massive redevelopment agenda, and within three years, appointed the District CEO.

Those are roles, not attributes but his journey nevertheless gives you a sense of the capability, energy and professional discipline one needs to have been on that trajectory. What you will also find is a person who cares deeply about people receiving great care and treatment. A person with insight into his role in creating a respectful, supportive organisational culture. A person with vision, committed to the evolution of health services.

If you share those type attributes, revel in complexity and are recognised as a leader then click here to find out more about the role and begin your application today.
