THE OPPORTUNITY
North Metropolitan Health Service (NMHS) is a major provider of public healthcare in Western Australia, delivering services across three tertiary and two secondary hospitals, supported by a workforce of more than 14,000 staff. NMHS provides a comprehensive range of specialist medical, surgical, mental health and obstetric services, alongside statewide programs and highly specialised multidisciplinary care, underpinned by strong research and education capability. We are seeking an outstanding clinical leader for the role of Executive Director Medical Services at North Metropolitan Health Service (NMHS).
This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of medical services across NMHS.
As Executive Director Medical Services, you will lead the design and commissioning of a new organisation-wide structure and service model for medical services across the NMHS.
THE ROLE
In this role, you will:
- Lead the development and implementation of a contemporary, organisation‑wide medical services model, integrating services across multiple sites.
- Provide NMHS‑wide clinical leadership and professional stewardship for medical practice, standards and performance.
- Lead innovation in models of care, including digital health and new service delivery approaches.
- Provide strong, visible leadership to multidisciplinary clinical and operational teams to support safe, high-quality care.
- Partner with key stakeholders, including the clinical leaders, the Chief Medical Officer, and government and non-government agencies to support coordinated, high-quality care.
- Provide expert strategic advice to the Chief Executive and NMHS Board on medical services, workforce and clinical priorities.
APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Extensive executive leadership experience in medical services, clinical governance, and medical workforce strategy within a large and complex health service.
- A proven ability to lead organisation-wide reform, service redesign and change management initiatives that improve patient, workforce, and organisational outcomes.
- Experience influencing and engaging senior clinicians, executive leaders, boards, universities, colleges, and government stakeholders.
- A strong track record in fostering clinical excellence through workforce development, education, research, and innovation.
- Eligibility for registration as a Medical Practitioner in Australia and a relevant specialist fellowship (RACMA or equivalent highly regarded), together with the integrity and judgement expected of a senior executive leader.
