St Vincent’s Health Australia has been providing health care in Australia for 160 years, since the first hospital was established in Sydney in 1857 by the Sisters of Charity.  St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne (SVHM) has 7,500 staff, 800 beds and is a tertiary teaching hospital which provides acute care services to inpatients and outpatients from the local community across 16 sites. It is one of Australia’s leading public hospitals, recognised as a centre for excellence in clinical care, research and training. Providing a range of services, including acute medical and surgical services, emergency and critical care, aged care, diagnostics, rehabilitation, allied health, mental health, palliative care and residential care. The Executive Director Strategy, Quality and Improvement is a new and  unique opportunity to lead the future for St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer the position has executive responsibility for leading the development and implementation of the organisational strategy as well as leading best practice continuous improvement and quality assurance based on contemporary methodologies to build and sustain a culture of continuous improvement. This role requires a highly experienced strategy, planning and project specialist with advanced communication skills and a strong track record in the health sector.  One of the key objectives is to drive the growth and development of SVHM through the development and delivery of the St Vincent’s Health Australia Strategic Plan, local strategies and clinical service plans to support growth and reform of services.  The Executive Director will lead and inspire a dedicated team to deliver excellence in patient outcomes and experiences and develop and implement actions to deliver the SVHM Strategy. The Executive Director will be a role model for demonstrating the mission and values of the organisation to allow us to provide the best possible care to the poor and vulnerable.

The successful person will demonstrate the following:

  • Health sector experience essential.
  • Demonstrated capability in Strategy development and implementation including Clinical Service Planning
  • Proven ability to drive change and innovation in a healthcare setting or similar
  • Demonstrated capability in government and stakeholder management including capacity to engage and influence across multiple levels
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in initiating, developing and implementing effective continuous improvement and quality assurance functions and frameworks based on Lean / contemporary methodology within best practice organisations.
  • High degree of people management skills, capabilities and experience with a proven ability to lead, build and deliver outstanding performance from highly specialised teams.
  • Tertiary qualified in a relevant discipline with substantial experience in Strategy, Continuous Improvement, and/or Quality and Clinical Safety.
