The 13-bed Wandi Nerida recovery centre is Australia’s only residential eating disorder facility, located on a serene 25-acre block in the Mooloolah Valley, on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. The award-winning Wandi Nerida provides a bridge between hospital admission and outpatient care. It provides a unique opportunity for a more intensive psychological recovery, finding the ‘healthy self’ amidst the eating disorder. The Chief Executive Officer, CEO, is responsible for leading the organisation to achieve its mission of changing the experience of eating disorders, saving lives, minimising incidence and impacts, improving the quality of life, and making recovery a reality. The CEO’s key objective is to advocate excellence and consistency in the culture of care and support for people with eating disorders and encourage a better understanding of the complexities of eating disorders and the need for a compassionate, flexible and holistic response.
The CEO is expected to provide specialist, authoritative, strategic advice and expertise, influencing organisational and Board decision making in the areas of Wandi Nerida operational management, eating disorders, quality and safety.
The CEO is also responsible for identifying and responding to a changing operating and policy environment and overseeing multiple change initiatives with outcomes that have a significant impact on the eating disorder community, the health sector, and stakeholders. The CEO will leverage a high-level understanding of the emerging social, political, environmental and technological changes occurring locally, nationally, and internationally.
The CEO will guide and challenge the team to continually strive for the best impact and outcomes from resources invested. The CEO must align the team with the organisational values and goals through effective people management and modeling, manage staff within a series of business units, and operate to the full delegation of the role. They will also act with accountability for the overall management of people and funding resources to ensure the delivery of the organisation’s outcomes.
The CEO of Wandi Nerida must engage with senior stakeholders within the complex environment of eating disorders, identifying issues in common, and using them to build mutually beneficial partnerships. They will find innovative solutions to resolve stakeholder issues and lead senior stakeholders through change, resolving conflict and managing sensitivities in a complex environment.
Finally, the CEO will establish and maintain relationships with people at all levels of the sector to grow connections, build trust through consistent actions, values, and communication to ensure Wandi Nerida is well integrated into both the national and state systems of care to provide sustained recovery for those affected by an eating disorder.
