Family Planning Australia (FPA) is the leading provider of reproductive and sexual health services in NSW. Founded in 1926, FPA are the oldest family planning service in Australia, providing reproductive and sexual health care services and information to the community for over 90 years.

FPA is an independent not–for–profit organisation, offering expert clinical care, information and advice, education and training and evidence–based research to support doctors, nurses, and other professionals, as well as leading international development projects to promote the rights of marginalised people in developing countries.

The Opportunity:

The FPA is seeking applications from highly experienced, clinical executive leaders to fill the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Reporting to the Board, the successful applicant will be responsible for driving and executing strategy and vision and will be accountable for the delivery of key strategic, operational and performance objectives across four pillars:

  • Integrated Health
  • Education
  • Research
  • International Development

FPA’s purpose is to provide specialised services and programs and advocate to promote the reproductive and sexual health and rights of all.

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate leadership and operational success within the health care system. They must demonstrate an ability to develop and drive innovative solutions, including the identification of potential commercial opportunities, to assist with program development, models of care and sustainable funding and system initiatives.

Critical to this leadership role will the effective management of stakeholders and service partners, media, funders, and staff of the FPA. The successful incumbent will possess an innovative, responsive style of leadership with the ability to inspire, connect and lead. They will possess well developed diplomacy, negotiation and stakeholder engagement and collaboration capabilities. They will have a track record of successfully leading and supporting multidisciplinary teams, including doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, researchers, educators and staff with skills in health promotion, community education and engagement, population health and research and international health services program development

Selection Criteria:

Candidates interested in the role will be asked to respond to the following selection criteria:

  1. Advocacy and Public Affairs – Excellent advocacy and campaign instincts with the ability to develop and execute a strategic policy, engagement, and communications and media strategy to support the strategic vision and purpose of the FPA.
  2. Inter-Governmental Relations and Policy Influence – exposure and understanding of health systems, reform, best practice and innovation, and policy development processes relevant to health care delivery, and specifically reproductive and sexual health.
  3. System Thinking and Thought Leadership: An ability to support and continuously focus on a forward agenda in support of the vision and purpose of the FPA. Strength in conceptual thinking, with an ability to conceptualise issues and themes and respond and lead the sector and organisation accordingly.
  4. Clinical Governance and Health Service Delivery: Experience in leading a health care organisation and delivering high quality client-centric care.
  5. Business Acumen and People Leadership: Experience in building, coaching, and leading teams and driving organisation growth and change. Build the team; create an effective team; coach team members and Model the Way
  6. Networking, stakeholder relations and communication: Able to seek out, nurture and develop the right relationships to assist the organisation in its mission and growth agenda. Ability to represent the organisation effectively with stakeholders, and across levels of government.
