Starship Children’s Health is a public children’s hospital and health service in Auckland, New Zealand. Opened on 18 November 1991, it was one of the first purpose-built children’s hospitals in New Zealand and is the largest such facility in the country. The Starship building is now linked to the main building of Auckland City Hospital and forms part of the whole site complex collectively known as Auckland City Hospital.

Starship Children’s Health treats over 140,000 patients a year, including around 1000 outreach clinics where Starship clinicians offer specialist consultation and support to their peers all around New Zealand. Starship is also a major medical teaching centre, leading New Zealand in paediatric training and research. Starship is New Zealand’s national children’s hospital, firmly focused on accelerating world-class healthcare for all New Zealand children.

Starship Children’s Health is seeking to appoint a Nurse Director, (EDON equivalent). This is an opportunity to provide strategic and operational leadership in paediatrics in a leading specialist child health care service.

Working within a Te Tiriti framework the Nurse Director will provide professional leadership, actualise health equity and ensure that service delivery provides clinically excellent, culturally safe care. This opportunity will enable the right person to influence the health and wellbeing aspirations of whānau, hapu and iwi throughout New Zealand.

Starship has a strong legacy of leading child health nursing regionally and nationally. Starship nurses are focused on delivering the highest quality nursing care to pēpi (infants), tamariki (children), rangatahi (youth) and their whānau (family).

Starship works in partnership with tamariki and their whānau acknowledging their uniqueness and right to high-quality equitable healthcare and optimal health outcomes. Maintaining a robust focus on patient safety and contributing to best clinical outcomes alongside a strong commitment to caring for staff and colleagues.
