The Alice Springs Hospital is now seeking an experienced Executive Director of Medical and Clinical Services to provide strategic, transformational and innovative leadership, governance, and direction for the Hospital and provide a key support role for the General Manager by ensuring the medical and clinical services operate as a highly effective component of the organisation producing a high degree of confidence in service delivery.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Medical administrator, with a passion for regional and remote health care provision, to live and work in a vibrant community in the thriving regional city of Alice Springs in Central Australia.

The Executive Director Medical and Clinical Services plays a critical role in professional leadership, strategic direction and operational / policy planning to ensure competent, culturally secure and contemporary medical and clinical practice across Alice Springs Hospital. The Alice Springs Hospital is a 209-bed hospital with approximately 240 medical staff.

To be a strong candidate for the role you will have current registration as a Medical Practitioner in the Northern Territory or eligible for the same and have recognised specialist qualifications (including but not restricted to FRACMA) and an equivalent of six years of full-time service in medical practice as a Staff Specialist. 

The successful candidate will be recognised for positive, dynamic, and professional contributions to the profession of medicine and also demonstrate the ability to demonstrate:

  • extensive professional experience at a senior level and demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership.
  • experience in financial and human resource management including strategic planning.
  • analytical, conceptual, problem solving, negotiation and change management skills.
  • commitment to quality improvement, research, education and innovation.
  • Exceptional communication skills and an ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with diverse groups within the health sector and wider community.
  • knowledge and understanding of government regulations, policies, and reform agendas
