Northern Territory Health is seeking a strategic and inspirational leader to manage the development and operational application of the Clinical Governance Framework and apply leading clinical practice and evidence-based approaches to health service delivery to promote and support patient safety, clinical excellence and innovation.

The Executive Director Clinical Governance and Innovation will develop and drive the delivery of responsive and purposeful strategies for all three of the NT Health’s regional health services, through high level expert advice to the Regional Executive Leads of Top End, Big Rivers and East Arnhem Regions, and implementation support to their respective health service teams.

The role reports to the Regional Executive Director, Top End Region but will work across the three Regions to deliver an integrated and cohesive response to clinical governance.  The role is expected to support all health services meet standards and accreditation and provide effective governance oversight to relevant clinical governance mechanisms, and committees.

The successful applicant must be well versed in understanding the dynamics of health systems and be highly pragmatic and impactful in dealing with all stakeholders from medical specialists though to non-clinical, administrative, and frontline operational workforces.  Highly developed communication skills and a capacity to work through people will be essential to create momentum and support a culture of strong clinical governance and safety that makes meaningful and lasting improvements.  The Executive Director will be required to ensure effective identification, investigation, management, monitoring and reporting of clinical safety, compliance and assurance issues, risks and patient events to foster service improvement.

Inspirational leadership and a collaborative approach across the health care system will be essential as the role will be recognised and required to support quality and safety improvement and ensure excellence in clinical governance and standards of care.   

The Executive Director must be skilled in working across systems, in political environments, with an ability to partner and as having the recognised expertise to influence and embed systems for the delivery of safe healthcare. Provide strategic advice and leadership on clinical innovation, digital health, service redesign and reform improvements.

SELECTION CRITERIA

If you believe you have the passion, commitment, and successful track record, with demonstrated high level:

  1. Knowledge and experience in successfully leading and applying the concepts of clinical governance, patient safety, the principles and practices of quality improvement, risk management and accreditation frameworks and their application in a health service.
  2. Experience in building system-wide capability and senior leadership in the areas of safety and quality, with a sound understanding of government processes, system-wide policy, and clinical strategic development.
  3. Experience leading service redesign, reform, and innovation improvements, within a health service.
  4. Demonstrated ability to lead a team and engage clinical leaders to drive cultural change while operating within a complex, politically challenging environment.
  5. Interpersonal, communication and consultation skills, with the proven ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures, communicate with influence, maintain confidentiality, liaise, collaborate, and negotiate outcomes.

Staff Specialist Additional Criteria: Eligible for specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia and has successfully completed a recognised specialist training program and has been admitted as a Fellow of the College authorising the program.

Senior Staff Specialist Additional Criteria: Eligible for registration as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia, completed not less than the equivalent of six years of fulltime service as a Staff Specialist.
