Chief Operating Officer (H22_4139)

Spectrum Care Ltd is a leading provider of services for New Zealanders who live with disability. Spectrum Care is a substantial organisation, but it’s the strength of their commitment to the people and whānau they support that they’re most proud of, as size alone doesn’t realise potential in people the way passion and positivity can.

A life of one’s own – it’s a simple human need. For many of us, it’s a given. But for thousands of New Zealanders living with disability, it’s something that can only be achieved with support. Spectrum Care helps identify the unique potential in every person they support, then lend a hand to help them realise it. No matter how complex someone’s challenges may be, they are worthy and they are of immense value.

Spectrum Care’s purpose is to help maximise the potential of the people it supports. The strategic intent is to grow to be a trusted partner of disabled people and whānau appealing to diverse cultural groups through the provision of differentiated and customer-led support options.

Reporting to the Chief Executive and working closely with the Spectrum Care Board, the Chief Operating Officer plays a critical role in the delivery of the strategic objectives and plans as approved by the board. The Chief Operating Officer will operationally manage Spectrum Care and ensure the organisation’s assets are managed ensuring the organisation is adequately resourced and equipped to meet strategic and operational objectives. They will also provide leadership to the Services Senior Management Team and have responsibility for day-to-day business and services management.

The successful candidate will likely have proven success leading executive-level operations within a related service sector. They will have a track record of building and maintaining a cohesive leadership team, who have demonstrated the ability to implement change resulting in improved outcomes for the people they serve. They will also have the commercial and financial acumen commensurate with the seniority of the role.

The Chief Operating Officer will need to have a strong understanding of, and commitment to, the Enabling Good Lives approach and be able to incorporate the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Spectrum Care’s operations. They will also need to demonstrate an understanding of the position of Māori as the Tangata Whenua, along with a commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and an openness to understanding the application of the Articles of Te Tiriti in the context of a disability organisation.
