HGI Executive Leadership

HGI's approach to Leadership Development is based on action learning theory.

The very nature of action learning is that leaders and managers learn by having to actually lead or manage real things. That is why our programs are designed to deliver a return for both the organisation and the individual. The return on investment can be clearly identified and the challenge for the participants is to deliver and learn.

Each participant is a member of a small group working on real projects signed off by the organisational leadership team/CEO.

This project approach both challenges the people and helps build a culture that binds people together for a common purpose. It allows people to appreciate and work with people from different parts of the system and overcomes the 'them and us" or Head Office and service delivery tension and misunderstandings.

Key elements cover:

  • personal challenge and development
  • strategic leadership
  • operational management
  • system/culture change

The environment of the program actually creates a learning environment/"learning organisation" Easy words to use but often misunderstood.

These programs are conducted over 8-9 months with people having to develop project plans and implement the plan. Supportive coursework adds the necessary learning that underpins the projects, changes the culture, develops people and delivers for the organisation.

HGI also conducts Development Centres to identify the Next Generation of Leaders and then develop the Leadership Development Plan to build talent and capacity.
